My discovery
of watercolor painting came late in my life. And since then
the journey itself and discovery of a whole new world has drawn
me to document the process along the way. Through this website,
it will be my goal to share what I have learned, people I have
met in my travels and my journey.
My comments as always will
be candid, honest and humbling. This world is full of egos
and people promoting themselves. Don't get me wrong, I love
self promotion. As long as its honest and serves a purpose.
My website here is not to promote my paintings as much as
the wonderful journey I have undertaken.

So sit back and enjoy. If you wish to email me,
feel free. I love to hear from other artists and those who
enjoy painting. You can email me at webmaster@watercolorpainting.info. Cheers Gordon F. Currie

"So what drew me to
painting watercolor you might ask? I think for me it comes down to needing to create
and release my feelings and creative energy. Much like writing,
painting allows me to express myself in a manner that is pleasing
and something I can be challenged with.
My painting motivation is a process of
preserving memories. When I look at a painting that I
like or catches
my eye, it brings out feelings, it brings out smells, lost
memories and childhood experiences.
Watercolor painting allows me to capture light
and put to paper a visual feast. I paint for me. If I can provide
pleasure to others through my paintings, then I have succeeded. Since I started painting, I see the world in
a totally different perspective. I see color and harmony in
everything I see. A tree is no longer green but made up of
yellows, reds and purples. life and natural subjects are random.
Branches and leaves appear in millions of possible shapes and
sizes.
My goal is to always paint what excites
me. I don't paint to sell paintings. If they sell, this
is wonderful
as it allows me to fund travel for painting purposes. I
don't ever want painting to become mechanical...my work
has to have
feeling and a sense of time. Working outdoors and painting
"plein air" is exciting for me.
Update: January 2004
As we enter the new year my journey continues
to grow. I swore up and down I wouldn't paint flowers
or gardens but I can't help myself and am having a great
deal of fun painting the Penelope's Garden Series. The
more I paint the more I realize that the creative energies
are locked inside. I get visions and clear pictures of
what to paint more and more. My work is all over the
place as I paint gardens one day and then fantasy castles
the next. I am enjoying exploring various themes and
have recently started using acrylics.
It's my goal to share some of my pictures
as prints this year as well as artcards. Prices will
be attractive.
"I assure you no
art was ever less spontaneous than mine. What I do is the
result of reflection and study
of the great masters; of inspiration, spontaneity, temperament
... I know nothing."
