The Potting Shed - Penelope's Garden Series ( completed July 2004 )

This watercolor painting is the 5th painting in my Garden Series. Titled "The Potting Shed", this larger watercolor original (22" x 30" ) was painted atGordon's studio in Dawson Creek and was inspired by local gardens and a recent trip to Butchart Gardens in Victoria. Click Here for large version. This painting was fun to paint and should be seen in person as its very detailed with 3-4 colors og pen and ink work on top of the watercolor.

Nature's Palette - Penelope's Garden Series ( completed July 2004 )

This watercolor painting is the 4th painting in my Garden Series. Titled "Nature's Palette", this work was painted at Moberly Lake and was inspired by gardens and oak rain barrels viewed at family gardens. Click Here for large version. The painting is very bright and I added some pen and ink for some added detail ( hard to see in this small photo).

East Meets Wests - Penelope's Garden Series ( completed Jan 2004 )

This painting is the third in the Penelope's Garden Series currently being developed. This painting symbolized the older fence in the west meeting the lattice fence and bamboo garden. Its very similar to the other garden paintings in this series. Once again, the detail is hard to see in the digital image. Click on this picture for a much large version.

Hidden Moments - Penelope's Garden Series ( completed Dec 2003 )

This painting is the second in the Penelope's Garden Series currently being developed. This painting was a combination color pour, watercolor translucent washes and then followed up with Pen and Ink in black and sepia. The detailed grain in the birdhouse and fence line is one of this paintings highlights. This painting will be avialable in the spring of 2004 as a artcard and limited edition print ( approx 11" x 14" ). Click Here for larger view

Lost Relic - Pirate's Cove Series ( completed April 2004 )

This acrylic painting is the 2nd painting in my new Pirate's Cove Series. Titled "Lost Relic", watch for "Sunken Galleon" and "Shiver Me Timbers" due this spring. Click Here for large version. I used a few new colors that I haven't used before and added some minor pen and ink for some added detail ( hard to see in this small photo).

Lost Treasure - Pirate's Cove Series ( completed April 2004 )

This acrylic painting is the first painting in my new Pirate's Cove Series. Titled "Lost Treasure", check closely as there is more to this picture than meets the eye. I was inspired by my interest in pirates and lost treasure. There are two new paintings in this series coming. Watch for "Sunken Galleon" and "Shiver Me Timbers" due this spring. Click Here for large version. (for those wondering, I am playing with Acrylic's while completing some additional full sheet (22" x 30") paintings in my Penelope's Garden Series.

Ancient City of Skythren - Acrylic ( completed Dec 2003 )

This was one of my first attempts at Acrylic Painting. I had the opportunity to take an acrylic course with Jeff McGinn in Dawson Creek. I found the acrylics a much different medium than watercolor and can see experimenting with them for certain styles I am playing with. The acrylics dry so fast and are very opaque. I plan to try using retarder and also glaze with them. Nothing beats watercolor for transparent glazing techniques. Time will tell.

* The city mentioned above was from a game I wrote called Eldoren: The Great Walled City. It's a fictional city in the mountains.

Fall Medley ( Dec 2003 )

This picture was painted as a gift for a family member and is based on a number of paintings that I have seen including birch trees and mountains. This was an interpretive study and is unique. Click here for a large version.

Penelope's Garden ( completed Dec 2003 )

This picture started as a horizontal experiment pouring paint and splashing paint about 2 months ago. It dried and looked aweful. And then about 2 days ago, I turned it sideways and immediately saw a garden fence and flowers. The digital image on this page doesn't do this picture justice as its very detailed. I used watercolor and gouache along with pen and ink for the detail. Lots of dry brush and wet in wet. Click here for a large version. This painting will be available in January as a GiClee print and artcard.

Summer Blossums ( completed Nov 2003 )

I painted this picture of flowers while working with Majorie Henn (a watercolor artist from Beaverlodge, Alberta). She had conducted a workshop at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery. I also completed a small study on a picture of a prairie grain elevator. This blossums painting was fun as I played with colors I normally don't use and wanted to capture the excitement of mixing different wet into wet techniques. Framed with a dark blue mat, this looks awesome.

Retired Rust ( completed Sept 2003 )

This painting was developed after a visit to a rail museum located north of Duncan, British Columbia. We spent an entire day wandering around looking at the ancient foresty logging parts and pictures dating back to the 1800's. During one trip into the back corner of the lot where they stored old train cars, I noticed a newer, traditional fuel car that was rusty. I found it ironic that this rail car was one of the newest while the steam trains roared around the property giving the visitors free tours.

This train car was very rusty and stood out against the grass and beat up old timbers. It had no where to go as the track was simpled stacked on old rail timbers for storage.

Serengeti ( Nov 2003 )

This painting was one of my acrylic paintings I did with Instructor Jeff McGinn in November of 2003.

Mars 2014 ( Nov 2003 )

I love the sci-fi fantasy series DUNE and envisioned the planet Mars in about 10 years from now being discovered with running water and canyon like walls. This painting originally represented an image of the grand canyon but I decided it looked better with the planet earth in the background.

Prairie Elevator ( Nov 2003 )

Living in the Peace Country I thought I'd better paint an elevator. This painting was part of a workshop I attended with professional watercolorist Majorie Henn.

Gulf Islands ( Summer 2003 )

This was an image I painted from my memories of the Gulf Islands.
